10/11/08 Troublemaker Tour Show 18: Seattle - Key Arena

Seattle show tonight! More asap. Post your show stories here.

10/10/08 Troublemaker Tour Show 17: Vancouver - GM Place

Tonight's show was what is known in touring talk as a hit and run - sandwiched between the Portland and Seattle shows, we came into Vancouver in the early morning, rested a bit, did the show, and packed up to go on to Seattle. It's too bad because Vancouver is such a neat city, and for the most part all the band and crew see are the hallways of the GM Place Arena, home of the Vancouver Canucks. Those halls were painted with such slogans as "We Are All Canucks". And maybe they are right. Anyway, regardless of how little we were able to hang in the 'Couve, The crowd was robust, loud and showed the band a lot of love. Viva Vancouver!

Tonight was the Portland show, at the Memorial Coliseum. Pat Wilson lived in Portland (well, Tigard actually) for 6 years before moving back to L.A. some years ago, and back in the day the Allan sisters ran the original Weezer fanclub out of their house here for a long time. Not to mention original 60 Wrong Sausages member and essential early weez compatriot Patrick Finn calls the PDX his home. So Portland's got real weezer roots, and its always a pleasure to roll thru this town. Tonight was no exception! The rock was solid, barring a couple small tech moments, the Hootenanny was lots of fun for all, and Wilson changed up the cover groove tonight, busting out some Floyd, and it sounded pretty damn sweet.

10/07/08 Troublemaker Tour Show 15: Salt Lake City - E Center

Back to Salt Lake City, home of Brian's super artistic sister Leia, and hometown of the dearly missed Allan sisters, who of course were the OG weezer fanclubbers. Tonight's show at the E Center was one of the smaller gigs on the tour so far, but what it may have lacked in size, it more than made up for it in volume and enthusiasm! That place got LOUD and the spirit of the fans was thru the roof! Meanwhile Rivers was a step ahead on the road to congestion recovery and had an easier time holding down the fort on his vocals tonight. At this rate he should be right back in the saddle in a few days.
While the hootenannies have provided this tour with many "weezer firsts", such as "first Theremin ever played with weezer" etc, tonight a very special first happened right down in the pit - the first ever wheelchair crowdsurfing at a Weezer show! (see 1st picture for proof!) It was an amazing sight and so cool to see a dude who normally has to fight for a good sight line be lifted up to the best spot in the arena - and held there for quite some time!
Tonight Tokyo Police Club were unable to play due to a prior commitment (some sort of TV show taping), so the local band Tolchock Trio took their place and did a great job. I was hearing some almost Replacements-ish stuff. Or Jawbox, or something cool like that. Good Midwest feeling indie/punk styles with neat sounds. Thanks for coming on board for a night guys.

10/05/08 Troublemaker Tour Show 14: Denver - Broomfield Events Center

After a day for much travel from the heart of the midwest to the Rocky Mountain High land, we got down to the business of troublemaking again in Denver - or rather, way out in the apparently brand new suburb of Broomfield. Tonights show was a bit of a challenge due to a heavy bout of congestion that Rivers had to plow thru to sing. Somehow he did it, though I have no idea how - I chalk it up to pure determination to rock under any circumstances! As has been the case so far, we had another spirited crop of Hootenany folk up on stage tonight, and the temporarily expanded weezer got the whole arena to sing along at the top of their lungs.

10/03/08 Troublemaker Tour Show 13: St Paul - Xcel Energy Center

The Troublemaker Train arrived in the land of Charles Schulz ready to lay down the kind of show ol' Charlie probably wouldnt have liked too much, i.e. loud, wild, sweaty... all the essential ingredients of rocking out the way the Twin Cities do. The Xcel Energy Center has surely hosted some Snoopy On Ice-capades in the past. Snoopy On Ice is possibly the total opposite of a weezer show, although both surely stoke their audiences. Well, Snoopy is awesome, but I'm pretty sure he never had the nonstop crowdsurfing going on that Weezer had tonight!

Hey by the way, I didnt mean to imply Chicago wasnt all that and a bag of chips, because it was. Somehow I guess I was expecting two bags of chips, like at Subway when you get the extra value meal and run out of chips before you've finished your sub. Well, it happens to me sometimes anyway.

10/02/08 Troublemaker Tour Show 12: Chicago - Allstate Arena

Back to sweet home Chicago! Tonights show at the O'Hare adjacent Allstate Arena was big rock as expected, though the vibe in the room felt a bit subdued for some odd reason. No real crowdsurfing going on, though the peeps were indeed loud! One never can tell how it's going to feel untill the lights and the gear is set up and the people are let in. The band delivered and the crowd cheered and sang along, though I couldnt help but feeling that Chicago wasnt quite the same as the last time through. Perhaps the Sox/Cubs matchup had people a bit distracted. Who knows, maybe it was just me? Oh wait, I know - it was the absence of Anuj, original Weezer.net webmaster (1995-1999) - usually he makes it to every Chicago area show, but was not able to make it down tonight. I'm tellin' ya, it had an effect! Anuj - missed ya buddy!

Also - to the post show Chi-town parking lot peeps - meant to chill with ya a bit, but somehow you dudes vanished by the time I got back outside?! Sorry about the delay.

09/30/08 Troublemaker Tour Show 11: Toronto - Air Canada Centre

eezer has returned to Canada, the brotherly land north of the border. Tonights show at the Air Canada Centre was regarded as pretty excellent by most accounts, though I noticed that in the home of the Maple Leafs there was a good deal less body checking than the other day in Detroit, despite what was clearly an extremely loud and stoked audience. My theory is that the Canadian Rocking Party Style (CRPS) involves allowing the professional hockey player to do the moshing, whilst observing from a short distance. As there were no professional hockey players actually in attendance (so far as I know), the moshing was ergo on the light side. Plus people are naturally (and refreshingly) polite up here. Well anyway, the end result was still rock and roll, no matter how it was sliced. As a matter of fact, at least one band member was heard to say post show that this was by far the most fun night of the tour so far. We are deep in the groove now, and theres no stopping the soul train!

Another aspect that many agreed was the best yet was today's backstage catering. Kudos to Capers!

Before the show, the band did an interview with MuchMusic, waaaaay up past the nosebleed section, on the fabled "6th floor" where apparently you need a special card (or membership in the Hockey Hall Of Fame?) to get up to. It was a bit dizzying up there. And there were a lot of nice vintage hockey pictures everywhere, showing the helmetless young hockey players of yore who looked far older than they really were due to hard livin'.

09/29/08 Troublemaker Tour Show 10: Detroit - Palace Of Auburn Hills

After a day off for travel and recharging in a quiet leafy suburb, we proceeded to the Palace of Auburn Hills for another dose of rock. Detroit brought out some serious pit action, the most crowdsurfing we've seen on this tour yet. These shows are getting better and better! Detroit also brought out none other than Scott Shriner's talented dad, who joined the hootenanny on saxophone and laid down the tastiest 'Beverly Hills' solo I think I or anyone in the band has ever heard! Nice!
